More about Jamie
Jamie Graham is a New York Pilates instructor and professional dancer. Jamie earned her B.F.A. in Dance and a B.A. in English Literature at Webster University, Saint Louis. She discovered Pilates while training as a dancer at Virginia School of the Arts. She did post-graduate study at CODARTS, Rotterdam, The Netherlands, where she trained in Pilates under Marjorie Oron and Romana’s Pilates. After moving to NYC in 2006, Jamie completed her Pilates certification at True Pilates New York with Sari Mejia-Santo and Cynthia Shipley. In addition to her 600+ hours of classical Pilates training, she recently completed a year of advanced study with Elevation Education under Diane Graci, Ashley Mathews, and Anna Volmar. Jamie has studied Alexander Technique and Carl Stough’s Principles of Breathing Coordination with Jean McClelland. Jamie has more than ten years of study with Barbara Mahler in Klein Technique, pre/post Natal training, anatomy/kinesiology with Irene Dowd, and myofascial anatomy with Anatomy Trains in Motion.
Jamie enjoys working with many different kinds of people. Athletes, dancers, actors, professors, professionals stuck at their desks all day, bartenders stuck on their feet all night, full time moms, and celebrities.
Early in her career, Jamie managed a corporate studio which was a crash course on different bodies and injuries as well as the overall fitness industry. She discovered that she prefers the independent studio vibe. She set out on her own at Form Pilates Cooperative. She has also taught at True Pilates East, Park East Pilates, and Henry Street Pilates.
Jamie has always felt fulfilled by balancing teaching and performing -- she is a successful modern dancer. Most recently she performed in Third Rail Project's Then She Fell. She also has worked with Jenny Rocha's Painted Ladies, Rocha Dance Theater, Barbara Mahler, Jessie Winograd, Rebecca Alson-Milkman, and Naomi Goldberg Haas / Dances For A Variable Population. Since 2010 Jamie has partnered with Amy Larimer in the dance-theater-improv duo The Raving Jaynes who've been presented across the country and around the world from Minneapolis to Austin, Athens to Amsterdam. At present, working with Virginia Scott of Fizgig Studio, Jamie's developed her alter-ego, the clown Loner, who performs a full-length solo show.
Jamie hails originally from Nashville, TN, but she doesn't sound like Ashley Monroe. She now lives in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn with her husband and gets out of town for a hike whenever possible.
